    2. PLEASE review the daily bulletin
    3. PLEASE review the testing schedule! Today is a TESTING DAY 1
       
    4. open iTerm and type this: ifconfig -en0 <-- that is a zero, not an oh. 
    5. Compose an email and send me the following information: 
      1. State the IP address of the computer you are using?
      2. State the IP address of the router your computer is connected to.
      3. State the subnet mask of your computer? 
      4. State the DNS address of your computer? 
      5. State the MAC address of your wireless NIC?
         
    6. review and explain to a friend: Data packet 
    7. review and explain to a friend: Network speed 
    8. review and explain to a friend: network hardware
    9. review and explain to a friend: what is the difference between a switch and a router?
    10. review and explain to a friend: OSI model 
    11. review and explain to a friend Network Standards 
    12. review and explain to a friend Network Protocols
       
    13. carefully read the page and complete the two formative learning activities on the Wireless networks wiki page.
    14. carefullly read the page and complete the formative learning activities on the Packet switching wiki page.
       
    15. Please ANSWER one question each on our class discussion board about either wireless networks or packet switching.

You should be revising our content for 20 minutes each day. As you learning about networking topics you should be asking yourself how you can apply your understanding (how do I go from theoretical to practical). I would love to hear from you, "How can we use this information practically?".

As you are learning you should be taking notes, and developing a cookbook or spellbook. Most system administrators have a book of hints and tips they keep with them. You should have a digital text file or written notebook with helpful reminders to understand the deeper parts of your system. 

Content

At the end of the day, you should be able to apply your understanding of network issues to solve problems. You should understand the maxim "Packets never lie".

I would love to hear from you, "How can we use this information practically?". You should be developing study guide for yourself, and using the tools we learn in class to see what is really going on with your computer, from a networking point of view. It would be good to run some simple experiments; as you are monitoring network connections, see what different applications do with your network. Any processes using network without your knowledge?

At a more comfortable level you should be applying your understanding of networks to see how applications are using networking resources. Whenever there is a network configuration issue or problem, you should know "about" where to look.
